About the Seminar
October 03, 2024 3:30pm—5:00pm
Understanding and addressing the social dimensions of carbon removal was a challenge. What had we learned so far? Attendees heard findings and insights from three research efforts.
Presentations included:
- Holly Jean Buck (University at Buffalo) on a new report based on 100 conversations about carbon removal across five US regions.
- Mahmud Farooque and Amanda Borth (Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes, Arizona State University) on research and engagement efforts.
- Sara Nawaz (Institute for Responsible Carbon Removal, American University) on research regarding the social considerations of marine carbon removal.
The event concluded with a panel conversation on how social science research can help decision-makers consider responsible and just carbon removal deployment, featuring reflections from:
- Rory Jacobson, Acting Division Director for Carbon Dioxide Removal, Department of Energy.
- Marcela Mulholland, Deputy Director of Partnerships, Carbon Removal Alliance.
