Mara Karageozian

Associate Researcher at the Consortium for Science, Policy & Outcomes at Arizona State University

Biography

Mara Karageozian is an Associate Research Professional at the Consortium for Science, Policy & Outcomes at Arizona State University (ASU). Mara holds a B.S. in Geology from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and recently earned her Ph.D. in Geological Sciences at ASU’s School of Earth and Space Exploration. In addition, she has a graduate certificate in Responsible Innovation in Science, Engineering, and Society from ASU’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society. As a geologist and physical scientist, she has studied meteorites using laboratory techniques to constrain the history of our solar system, and she has explored the petrology of exoplanets using modeling and data processing. In addition to her physical science, she researches methods for incorporating public engagement and participation into federal agency science and technology decision-making and prioritization. Her past research has focused on designing public engagement methods for mission and science prioritization at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Mara has worked as a graduate research and teaching associate at ASU’s School of Earth and Space Exploration, where she developed a background in science communication and developed a virtual curriculum for core geology courses. Outside of the School of Earth and Space Exploration, she has been a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Science Outside the Lab summer program supported by ASU and the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure. She has been awarded a 2022-2023 ASU College of Liberal Arts and Science Leadership Award and was named a Presidential Management Fellowship Finalist in 2024.
