Solar Soft Cost Reductions in PV and CSP: Mapping the Opportunities

How could artificial intelligence help reduce the cost of building solar power plants? Leading experts in solar energy, artificial intelligence, and robotics will explore this and other questions at a workshop focused on reducing soft (i.e. non-hardware) costs in the solar energy sector. In the wake of recent declines in the cost of solar panels, soft costs in areas such as plant siting, design, and installation are increasingly important as a factor in overall system costs. The workshop will report current trends and efforts in these areas and explore a wide range of opportunities for leveraging advanced information technology in the solar energy sector, such as through human-robot teamwork in the construction process.
