Biography

Prakash Kumar is Associate Professor of South Asian history at Pennsylvania State University. He specializes in the history of science, agricultural history, and development studies. His first book, Indigo Plantations and Science in Colonial India was published by Cambridge University Press in 2012. He is currently writing a book on the history of the green revolution in India that discusses the arrival of high yield agriculture to India in the 1960s. The book explores India’s colonial past, post-independence development efforts, and the role of American Cold War-inspired modernizers in bringing this agriculture to India.
