Jeffrey Alexander

Director for Innovation Policy at the Research Triangle Institute

Biography

Dr. Jeffrey Alexander is Director for Innovation Policy at the Research Triangle Institute (dba RTI International), an independent research organization dedicated to improving the human condition by turning knowledge to practice. He has over 35 years of experience in conducting in-depth analyses of high-technology markets, tracking and evaluating R&D strategies and policies, developing new methods of measuring science and innovation, and advising governments and firms on technology program funding and implementation. His work has been funded by U.S. government agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Energy, as well nonprofit organizations, and foreign governments. He currently serves as a member of the Steering Committee of Section X (Societal Impacts of Science and Engineering) of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and is a member of the Polaris Council, a body advising the U.S. Government Accountability Office on science technology analysis and assessments. Dr. Alexander holds a Ph.D. in Management and Technology from The George Washington University and a B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University, where he completed the honors program in science, technology, and society.
