Arthur Daemmrich

Director, Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes

Biography

Arthur Daemmrich is director of the Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes (CSPO) at Arizona State University. Located in the nation’s capital, CSPO develops and shares methods for real-time technology assessment, responsible innovation, and community consultation on emerging technology, biomedicine and scientific knowledge that challenges the status quo. Members of the consortium collaborate to rethink the role of science in society.

Daemmrich’s scholarly work analyzes the emergence of technology-based industries, explores the relationship between regulation and innovation, and compares innovation systems internationally. He is the author of Pharmacopolitics: Drug Regulation in the United States and Germany and over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and teaching cases. Daemmrich previously was director of the Smithsonian Institution’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation, associate professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, assistant professor at Harvard Business School, and a visiting professor at the China Europe International Business School. He earned a Ph.D. from Cornell University in Science and Technology Studies and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in the History and Sociology of Science.
