Virginia Chanley
Senior Design Methodologist, GAO
Biography
Dr. Virginia (Jenny) Chanley is a senior design methodologist at the U.S. Government Accountability Office in GAO’s Applied Research Methods team. Dr. Chanley helps design and implement GAO technology assessments and performance audits across a range of areas, including government-wide and agency-specific assessments of data quality and use, contracting and acquisitions policies and practices, and cross-cutting issues such as technology development and implementation in government and society. She has also led projects on data analytics and innovation and artificial intelligence, as part of GAO’s technology assessment portfolio of work. Before joining GAO in 2004, Dr. Chanley taught classes in American politics, research design and methods, and statistics at Florida International University. Dr. Chanley’s academic publications are in the areas of political tolerance and accountability, U.S. public views of internationalism, and public trust in government. She holds an MA in political science from Arizona State University and PhD in political science from the University of Minnesota.
