How scientists are redefining scientific performance

Raquell Holmes, founder and director, improvscience.

Why are scientists creating new, experimental social spaces in which to talk about and do science: hacker-spaces, DIY labs, Dance your Ph.D., science communication challenges, free access publications, and massive collaborations? How do we understand the emergence of these sociocultural events and norms? What do they have to do with the daily activities of research, design and discovery? This talk introduces a developing community of researchers, activists, and artists (STEM students and professionals) who are actively exploring the relevance of performance and performing arts to STEM fields. We see in their work the development of STEM culture as humanistic, collaborative, inclusive, highly innovative fields of practice.
